Adapters are used to make usually incompatible parts fit each other. Many photo applications use threaded rings often called "step up" or "step down" rings to allow, two examples, a standard kit of filters to fit several different lenses, or different sized shutters can be fitted with adapters to allow them all to use the same lensboard. The same lensboard can be used on different cameras by using a lensboard adapter. In some cases a slip on type adapter can be used, either for convenience or in cases where one of the mating parts has no thread. |
A simple sketch can be used to specify a threaded ring. All that's missing here is dimension "A" |
